2023 U-23 AFCON: It’s going to be a difficult tournament for Black Meteors – Mark Addo

Mark Addo, the Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has acknowledged that the upcoming 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be a difficult challenge for the Black Meteors.

On Tuesday, the Ghana U-23 national team secured a place in the Olympics qualifying tournament by defeating Algeria 2-1 over two legs. The team has not qualified for the Olympic Games since 2004, making next year's event the 20th anniversary of their last appearance.

Despite the recent success, Mark Addo recognizes that qualifying for the Olympic Games will not be easy, but it is crucial that Ghana participates.

At an event attended by footballghana.com, he stated that the GFA would do everything possible to support the team, including providing resources and scouting for the technical team to ensure they select the best players.

“We will do everything from the Ghana Football Association’s standpoint for them in terms of resources, in terms of scouting for the technical team to ensure they get the best players out there to represent us in this tournament.

“It is going to be a difficult tournament I tell; all these countries are vying for three positions for the Olympics Ghana has to be there. Like I said, one foot in the door, the second foot to go.”
