Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Randy Abbey has said Ghana's group at the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is very tough.

Drawn into Group A alongside host nation Morocco, Congo, and Guinea, Ghana faces a challenging task in their quest to secure a place at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Ghana's Black Meteors have not qualified for the Olympic Games since Athens 2004, making it 20 years next year.

“I have seen the draw, [it is a] very, very tough group, but I think that the players who have been called up are quite good, and I also know that we are going to augment them with some foreign-based players," Dr. Randy Abbey  told Citi Sports in an interview.

Ibrahim Tanko has named a 29-man provisional squad for the 2023 U23 AFCON on Thursday that has 15 local players andn 14 foreign players.

The squad will be reduced to 21 for the tournament set to kick of on June 24 and end on July 8.
