Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s in-form attacker, Abdul Fatawu Safiu has finally joined his teammates at their camping base in Asante Mampong following his axing from the Black Stars Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad.

The player who has been in fine form for the Porcupine Warriors since the start of the GFA Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition was included in the provisional 29-man squad for camping last month but failed to make the cut for the final team when it was announced last Monday.

Having been away from the team for some time, Safiu joined his Kotoko teammates earlier today for training as they prepare for the crucial match with arch rivals Hearts of Oak.

The mouthwatering fixture is a semi-final tie to decide which of the two side’s progress to the grand finale of the tier 1 of the Special Competition where they will have the opportunity to represent Ghana in the next edition of the CAF Champions League.

Safiu’s return to the side gives Coach CK Akonnor’s team a major boost especially when star player Sogne Yacouba is still a doubt for the encounter. If the Burkinabe import is unable to recover to full fitness in time, Abdul Fatawu Safiu who is the 2nd leading goal scorer in the novelty competition will lead the attack of the Kumasi based side.

The match will be played on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at the Accra Sports Stadium. Kick off time is at 15:00GMT.
