AC Milan coach Vincenzo Montella has refused to criticise the referee after his side were beaten by a controversial last minute penalty against Juventus on Friday.

Mattia De Sciglio was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box in the last minute of injury time, afterJose Sosa had been sent off for a second yellow card.

Paolo Dybala dispatched the late penalty to make the score 2-1, leaving Milan with no reward from acommendable performance at the Juventus Stadium.

But Montella made it clear that he had no intention of complaining about the performance of the referee.

"The complaints are useless. You have to be calm and serene and accept the decisions," he told Mediaset Premium - viaGoal."We have to send a peaceful message to those who look at us from home."

Defeat left Milan in seventh, two points off fifth placed Atalanta who occupy the final Europa League spot.

The teams above them all have a game in hand, but Montella expressed his confidence that his side will achieve European qualification if they replicate Friday's performance for the remainder of the season.

"If we stay this compact, for sure we will enter Europe," he added."We played a good game against an opponent that has power all over the field. It gives us pride because we put them in trouble and we were almost on par."

Juventus, meanwhile, moved 11 points clear at the top of the Serie A table with victory, asserting their dominance in their hunt for a sixth successive Scudetto.
