Borussia Dortmund target Suso is reportedly close to signing a new contract with AC Milan, according to reports in Italy.

Tuttosport (via Milan News) claims that the Bundesliga club are set to be rebuffed in their advances for the Spanish attacker after Milan opened contract negotiations to keep him at the San Siro.

Suso has been in excellent form for Milan this season, and his performances for the Serie A side have attracted a number of top European clubs, including Dortmund.

Dortmund possess star forwards such as Andre Schurrle, Marco Reus, Christian Pulisic, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele, who all regularly play in Suso's preferred positions on the field but, with the likes of Reus and Pulisic linked with January moves away from the club, BVB were interested in bringing the Spain Under-21 international to the Westfalonstadion.

Milan are expected to extend Suso's stay in Italy until the summer of 2021 - an extra two years on top of his current contract's expiration date of June 2019 - and will allegedly hand him a £1.7m-a-year contract to commit his future to I Rossoneri.

The 23-year-old starred in Milan's recent Supercoppa Italiana penalty shootout victory over rivals Juventus last Wednesday, and has notched five goals and seven assists in just 18 appearances for Vincenzo Montella's men so far this term.

His displays for Milan are a far cry from Suso's troubled spell at Premier League side Liverpool, who he had initially joined for around £50k from Cadiz's youth setup back in the summer of 2010.

Suso spent five years on Merseyside but, after breaking into the first-team fold at Anfield, struggled for regular minutes on the pitch under the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers and made just 21 appearances between 2010 and 2015.

He called time on his Liverpool career when Milan came calling in January 2015 - the Italian outfit's £1.1m bid being enough to prise him away from England's top tier and, after spending the second half of last season on loan at Genoa, returned to Milan this summer to fight for his place in the squad under Montella.
