Emyr Huws missed out on Wales' Euro 2016 squad

Ipswich Town midfielder Emyr Huws says the Achilles problem that kept him out since pre-season is the "strangest" injury he has seen in football.

On Wednesday the 24-year-old Wales international made his first appearance for Ipswich since joining permanently.

"It messed with my head a lot, and other people's, but it's fine now," he told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"It was just out of the blue, weird. Hopefully I'll never have to go through that again."

Huws spent the second half of last season on loan at the Championship side before signing from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee in June on a four-year deal.

He suffered the injury during the first week of pre-season training but managed to avoid having surgery after a lengthy consultation period.

"I didn't know what it was to be honest - it was the strangest injury I've had, and ever seen, in my time in football, so it was weird," he added.

"I'm thankful to the gaffer [Mick McCarthy] for always believing in me ever since I've been here, so I just want to repay him."
