AFC Cup: Mohun Bagan Held to a 1-1 Draw by Club Valencia in South Zone Play-Off

Indian footballing giants Mohun Bagan were held to a 1-1 draw by Club Valencia of Maldivesin the first leg clash of the 2017 AFC Cup South Zone play-off in Male on Tuesday.

It was theKolkata based club who struck first, taking the lead through Darryl Duffy in the fifth minute.Duffy placed the ball into the net after Prabir Das, made a darting run down the right, which caught the Valencia defenders napping, with Duffy there to give them the lead.

Bagan were looking the more dangerous team on the night, dominating possession but much to their chagrin could not convert it into goals. Theirprofligacyupfront came to bite them in the 72nd minute, when Subhasish Bose handled the ball in the box, giving the hosts an opportunity to equalise.

Godfrey West Omodu made sure that he did not miss from the spot, slotting the penalty home to ensure that the game finished on 1-1 on the night.The second leg of this play-off match will now take place at the Rabindra Sarobar stadium in Kolkata on February 28.
