Published on: 06 January 2017

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan will make a record sixth Africa Cup of Nations appearance at this year's tournament in Gabon.

The 31- year old will be hoping to lead the team to end the country's long wait for an African title.

He is one of the three players in this year’s Cup of Nations to have tasted more appearances.

The other two players are Egypt's experienced goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary and Ivorian Solomon Kalou.

Gyan's first cup of Nations was when Ghana hosted the tournament in 2008.

Since then he has been to every Nations Cup and played a key role in the team's progression from the Group stages.

The former Rennes, Udinese and Al Ain goal poacher has scored seven goals in his five Cup of Nations appearances for the Black Stars.
