AFCON 2017: Black Stars ready to accept any amount the Nation gives them

Published on: 16 January 2017

Leadership of the Ghana national team, the Black Stars have revealed they are willing to accept any amount the nation is ready to pay them as they prepare to end a 35 year wait for a major trophy.

The Black Stars who initially took $10,000 as match winning bonuses suffered a pay cut under the previous Government who reduced the amount to $8,000 but ahead of the Afcon, reports suggested that the team met with the new government's information minister and pleaded for their bonus to be increased.

However, with a day to their opening game at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, reports have revealed that the team is willing to take any amount from the nation.

According to the communications director of the GFA Mr. Ibrahim Saanie Dara, Asamoah Gyan and his teammates met the management committee of the Black Stars and told the committee that they – the players – are now ready to take whatever amount the nation can pay them as bonus money.

“The players have told us that they will take any amount that the nation is willing pay them as their bonus money. They met the management committee and told them this. They want to send a signal to the Ghanaian public that they are not playing because of the money and hence this decision. What ever Ghana can pay, they will take it.” Sani Daaa told Metro FM’s reporter Gariba Raubil who is in Gabon for the 2017 AFCON.
