Ghanaian hearts were once again broken after Tunisia secured a penalty shootout win over the Black Stars in the round of 16 of the tournament.

Following what was a tensed 1-1 draw after both regulation time and extra time, the North African side triumphed in the shootout.

Caleb Ekuban’s miss proved to be Ghana’s undoing, as Tunisia netted all their penalties to emerged 5-4 winners.

Mubarak Wakaso was Man of Match against Tunisia

Despite Ghana’s loss, Wakaso emerged Man of the Match after putting in yet another assured performance in midfield.

The midfielder, however, could not hold back his tears as he came to terms with Ghana’s latest exit from the tournament.

“I can’t even describe how we are feeling but the only thing I have is I need to thank my colleagues the whole time for their support," Wakaso said, before breaking down in tears.

"It’s part of the game. I think we need to think about our future - that’s the only thing we can do.

"My reason [for being so emotional and weeping in the press conference] was that I thought this tournament was for us due to the hard work we’ve been putting in in every match.

"That is the reason why I’m like this right now but still have a future so we need to think ahead."

The loss to Tunisia means the Black Stars’ wait for a major trophy continues, with Ghana having last won a trophy 37 years ago.
