Afcon qualifier absentees will join the team in future - coach Kwesi Appiah

Black Stars of Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah claims the players dropped from the squad ahead of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya will return in the future.

The experienced gaffer revealed this when the team arrived in Nairobi for Group F qualifier against the Harambee Stars on Saturday at Kasarani Stadium.

Coach Appiah left out captain Asamoah Gyan, his deputy Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew from the squad and this has raised concerns in the country that the squad is not strong despite the return of Inter Milan midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah.

He will be leading squad dominated by young players like Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey and Raphael Dwamena.

"Ghana has a lot of players, those not with us now will be with us in the future,” coach Appiah said.

Harambee Stars face a daunting task as they host Group F leaders Ghana who beat Ethiopia 5-0 in the opening group clash.

Kenya currently sits third on the group having suffered a 2-1 defeat against Sierra Leone back in June last year.

Should Kenya win all their home encounter they stand a real chance of qualifying for the 2019 Afcon that is set to be hosted by Cameroon.
