Football fanatics at a school in Sutton Coldfield scored an unbelievable opportunity to take part in a training session with one of the Midlands' top teams.

Sporty stars in the year seven boys' football team at John Willmott School netted the chance to visit Aston Villa Football Club's training facilities at Bodymoor Heath where they took part in a two-hour training session.

The training, which took place on the indoor pitch, was led by first-team right-winger and midfielder, and Ghanaian international, Albert Adomah, with several members of the Aston Villa Academy.

Watched by long-serving Aston Villa player Gabby Agbonlahor, the budding footballers practised passing, dribbling and shooting drills, as well as playing six-a-side games before ending the session with a penalty shoot-out.

Pupils from the Reddicap Heath Road school had a "fantastic experience" and were "thrilled" to work with such famous players, as well as seeing manager Steve Bruce and other players who were also at the training headquarters.

Headteacher Tracey Peters said: "This was a wonderful opportunity for our year seven football team. They have demonstrated real commitment to their sport and the school this year and deserved this chance to meet and train with some professional footballers.

"We are very proud of their success on the field and they are excellent ambassadors for our school."

It was double delight for John Willmott staff member Pauline O'Connor. The avid Aston Villa supporter, who was celebrating her birthday that day, had her photo taken with Albert Adomah who then, much to her amazement and delight, gave her a pair of his personalised football boots!

A spokesperson for Aston Villa FC, said: "John Willmott's year sevens were an absolute credit to the school and all displayed exemplary behaviour and great discipline and skills on the field of play."
