Albiol: Juventus can’t expect 40 goals from Cristiano Ronaldo

Napoli centre-back Raul Albiol has reflected on former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in Serie A, and asserted that the Juventus star would struggle to replicate his prolific form in Spain.

The Portugal international completed a sensational switch to the Bianconeri in July, arriving in Serie A five years after Albiol departed Real Madrid for Napoli.

Ronaldo enjoyed a hugely prolific spell with Los Merengues, with 450 goals in 438 appearances, but has so far struggled in front of goal for Juventus, having failed to score in his first three appearances.

Albiol insisted that the nature of Italian football meant that the Bianconeri are unlikely to see such incredible goalscoring returns as witnessed in La Liga.

“It will be difficult for Ronaldo to score 40 goals because football in Italy is different from that in Spain and Portugal,” the Spanish international told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 33-year-old will be hoping to register his first strike for Juventus when they host Sassuolo after the international break.
