Alexis Sanchez has, up until this point, enjoyed a marvellous 2016 for club and country.
The striker helped Arsenal pip North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to second place in the Premier League last season, thenfollowed that up by firing Chile to Copa America success in the United States over the summer.
If that wasn't alreadyenough, Sanchez was crowned Player of the Tournament for his scintillating displays, and has already bagged six goals and seven assists from just 12 appearances for the Gunners so far this term.
It would be fair to say, then, that the 27-year-old may feel a little aggrieved at being overlooked for the 2016 Ballon d'Or award.
If this Instagram post is anything to go by, then Sanchez is definitely feeling aggrieved:
The post, made byArsenal fan account _thearsenalfeed, was liked by the player himself after the 30-man shortlist for the annual prize was announced by FIFA on Sunday.
The accompanying caption reads: '1. Won the Copa America. 2. Copa America Player of the Tournament. 3. Helped Arsenal to reached (sic) 2nd in the EPL 2015/2016. Not nominated in the Ballon d'or 2016. Thoughts?'
That, my friends, is what you call a burn.
Sanchez may be disappointed to miss out, but then, other notable names like Arsenal team-mate Mesut Ozil didn't make the grade either. If nothing else, such a snub should encourage them to prove any doubters wrong and have an exceptional 2017.
