Alexis Sanchez Set to Play for Chile Despite Arsene Wenger Concerns Over Hamstring Injury

Published on: 14 November 2016

Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez is set to feature for Chile inTuesday's World Cup qualifier against Uruguay despite Arsene Wenger's concerns over the forward's fitness, reported The Guardian.

Sanchez picked up a hamstring injury while on international duty with his country last week, and as a result missed the recent clash with Colombia. However, the injury - according to the Chilean camp at least - is not as serious as Wenger believes it to be, and he is now ready to play against the Uruguayans as Chile look to turn their campaign around.

The concerns over Sanchez's fitness and the timing of the weekend's clash with Manchester United seems to make the former Barcelona man a doubt for the Old Trafford game, though Wenger has spoken out about his worry over potential long-term damage if Sanchez comes back too soon.

Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi said on the player: "Sánchez was not ready for the game in Colombia, but we knew the injury was a small one and we could have him for this match. The three of them [Sánchez, Arturo Vidal and Claudio Bravo] are available to me.

It's not that he hasn't trained, he's trained every day, even when we were in Colombia he did a different kind of work. Yesterday he took part in full training.

At no time have we received pressure from any club. My stance is that I will never use a player who is not fit or capable of playing. All of the clubs can remain calm, we are very respectful of our players.

"The health of our players is paramount, we will never force any player who has not got the medical all-clear.

Wenger has previously stated it could be a "suicidal decision" if Sanchez is brought back too soon.
