Former Ghana goalkeeper, Ali Jarra says CK Akonnor can lead the country to a fifth Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) glory atmosphere,

Ghana, a four-times Afcon winner has failed to make an impact since winning the last trophy in 1982.

The Black Stars have, however, played in the three finals, 1992, 2010 and 2015 finals but have failed to win the ultimate.

Ghana was humiliated in the last edition staged in Egypt after Tunisia kicked out the Black Stars out of the competition at the Round of 16.

In an interview with Citi TV, Jarra backed C.K Akonnor to lead the Black stars to win Ghana’s first AFCON trophy in the Afcon tournament.

“I think CK needs support, the materials are already available.

“Through prayers and doing the right thing, I think Ghana will bring that jinx.

“C.K was appointed because the Ghana football Association trust and believe in him, so nobody should pressurize him or tell him what to do,” he continued.

“He should be allowed to make his own mistakes and learn from them.

“They should play for C.K and not the nation.

“I think that we are going to win the next AFCON because we already have everything," he added.

Akonnor was appointed early this year on a two-year deal by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), succeeding Kwesi Appiah.

The former Asante Kotoko, Dreams FC and Ashgold head trainer is assisted by David Duncan.
