American club Richmond Kickers FC have completed the signing of Ghanaian defender Wahab Ackwei in the on-going transfer window ahead of the new season.

Ackwei, 22, has officially joined the American third-tier club on a free transfer.

Speaking to Kickgh.com, the Ghanaian youngster expressed his happiness after penning a deal with his new club.

"I'm very happy to sign a contract with Richmond Kickers FC. It's a great club and I hope to help them achieve their objectives," he said.

"Winning trophies and gaining promotion from the USL League One is one of our main targets for the new season"

He was without a club after terminating his contract with New York Red Bulls II by mutual consent in 2018.

The ex-Inter Allies defender made seven appearances and registered an assist for New York Red Bulls in the 2018 USL Championship.

The highly-rated youngster becomes the third Ghanaian to join Richmond Kickers FC after Amass Amankona and Charles Boateng who joined them recently from WAFA SC.

He was one of the highly-rated center-backs in the Ghana Premier League three seasons ago.
