Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has claimed that PhilippeCoutinho's Agent is 'working hard' in light of recent transfer interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old was the subject of intense transfer interest over the summer, with a number of Europe's top clubs reportedly interested in the playmaker.

But Coutinho decided to stay put, pledging his allegianceto Jurgen Klopp's side for at least another season.

Phil Thompson meanwhile, who won seven First Division titles and three European Cups during his Liverpool playing career, can still see Coutinho leaving for Barcelona or Real Madrid at some point in the future.

"He could play and you could see him fitting in the Barcelona or Real Madrid team," he told Sky Sports.

"I am being serious, he has that much ability, great technique.

"And he has become that big star and of course once you start getting something, you do hear that all the big Spanish clubs will be chasing him, so his agent has been working extra hard in the last couple of weeks."

Coutinho has been an ever-present in Liverpool's side since a 2013 switch from Inter Milan, appearing 155 times in all competitions, scoring 33 goals including five already this season.

In an attempt to fend off interest from Barcelona,Liverpool look set to offer the Brazilian playmaker a new contracteven though he last signed one just 18 months ago.
