Arsenal Eye Top Bundesliga Manager as Possible Replacement for Arsene Wenger

TheDaily Expresshas claimed that Arsenal are eyeing up current Bayer Leverkusen boss Roger Schmidt as their next manager.

Arsene Wenger's contract is due to expire this summer and both he and the club have been hush on any future plans.

Wenger came in for criticism last year when his side failed to mount a challenge on Leicester City's title push and leapfrogging rivals Tottenham on the final day of the season did little to improve morale among the fans.

However, after gaining just one point from the opening two games, Arsenal find themselves very much in contention this term a and the feeling is that the club may be able to end their title drought.

But should Wenger choose to step aside the Arsenal board appear to have shortlisted Schmidt as his possible replacement. His Bayer Leverkusen side beat Tottenham at Wembley on matchday four of the Champions League and he has forged an impressive reputation for himself.

He spoke recently of his desire to manage in England and highlighted Jurgen Klopp as someone he would like to emulate.

I like English football very much, because of the culture of football in the country,I'm contracted with Leverkusen until 2019 but, if it was possible in the future to be a manager of an English football team, it'd be very interesting for me. But at the moment, I am very happy where I am.

In every country there are good managers. But now is the time for the German managers, whereas in the past it's been the turn of the Italian or English coaches. You have a very good example in England with Jürgen Klopp. He did very well at Borussia Dortmund, twice he won the championship and is very successful at Liverpool. In the future, I'm sure he'll have even more success there.

Klopp is a good inspiration for me. I like his active style of football and also his style as a coach. Dortmund beat Bayern Munich twice in the championships and the reason for that was that they played a very aggressive style."
