Arsene Wenger Demands His Arsenal Players Maintain Their 'Humility and Focus' After Stoke Win

Published on: 10 December 2016

Arsene Wenger has urged his Arsenal players to stay focused after their 3-1 win over Stoke sent them top of the Premier League.

The Gunners had to come from a goal behind to earn all three points and were indebted to strikes from Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil and substitute Alex Iwobi. The victory lifts Wenger's side to the top of the table, although Chelsea can overtake them on Sunday should they take at least a point away from their match with West Brom.

But whilst Arsenal's stay at the summit may prove tobe brief, their manager has demanded his team keep their focus and continue to work hard in every game.

Speaking toSky Sports, Wenger said:"We stay up there and that's what we want, we want to be in the fight.

"We are on a good run, with good momentum, and it's now down to us to keep the humility and focus and be capable of turning up in every game, because in the Premier League every game is difficult.

"You have to maintain it and that's our target now, to keep that strength and take care of it and show that we can produce it in every game."

The Frenchman then turned his attention to Charlie Adam's spot kickthat had at the time, seen the Gunners fall behind. Wenger admitted he was disappointed at Lee Mason's decision to award the visitors a penalty, but felt that the overall result was justice for his team:"We have had three penalties at home, not one is a penalty. But we have to live with it.

"I was frustrated when it happened but at the end of the day we cannot change the decision. We responded well and showed again even when you are 1-0 down we can come back and win the game.

"They haven't lost in their last four away games and you could see they had a stronger start than we did. We had a penalty against us and had to come back, which we did just before half-time.

"I think we deserved to win because we dominated the second half."

Arsenal must now prepare for two tricky away matches in thenext week, as they travel to Merseyside to facean out-of-form Everton team on Tuesday, before heading to the Etihad to face title rivals Manchester City five days later.
