Asamoah Gyan demoted to Shanghai SIPG second team

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has been shipped to the reserve side of his club side Shanghai SIPG.

The 30-year old has struggled to play games for the Chinese side following his reoccurring injuries.

This has become a worry for manager Sven Goran Errikson who brought Gyan in from UAE Pro-League side Al Ain FC for an undisclosed fee two seasons ago.

Reports in China indicate that, SIPG initially wanted to terminate Gyan’s contract as most fans and officials say his performance for the side does not commensurate with the his £227,000 per week salary.

Gyan in his first season in China played 10 games and scored four times. In all competitions, he made 17 appearances and netted 10 goals in the process.

Due to his reoccurring injuries this season, he has played only 10 games out of 22 and has scored just three goals.
