Ghana legend, Asamoah Gyan has called for support for Inaki Williams after struggling against Angola.

Having featured at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar without scoring a goal, the Athletic Bilbao forward was handed a starting berth against the Palancas Negras in the matchday three of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers at the Baba Yara Stadium.

However, the 29-year-old failed to find the back of the net in his debut game in his country and was substituted in the second half.

However, Gyan, who is the country's all-time leading goal scorer has called for support for Williams.

According to him, the promising forward needs a goal to boost his confidence.

"It's very difficult to adjust to the African game, He has played in Europe all his life," he told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

"We need to give him more opportunities, he is improving even though he hasn't found his feet yet but I'm sure his first goal will open the floodgates and many more will follow.

"His first goal will boost his confidence level. Let's keep supporting him," he added.

Antoine Semenyo scored the only goal as the Black Stars recorded a 1-0 win over Angola.

The Black Stars who are seeking to make their 10th Afcon appearance now sit top of Group E with 7 points after three games.

Ghana will travel to Luanda for the reverse leg in the matchday four games on Monday, March 27.

The game will be played at the Estádio 11 de Novembro with kick-off scheduled at 16:00GMT.

The Black Star are seeking to end the country's 4 years Afcon trophy drought.
