La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have identified Uruguay international Mauro Arambarri as the replacement for Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey if he leaves the club, footballghana.com can exclusively report.
Partey reportedly wants a move away from the Spanish capital to test his skills in the Premier League. Arsenal is leading in the race to sign the 26 year old. He is hopeful that a deal will be struck with the Gunners according to multiple reports.
The former UD Almeria loanee was offered a fresh deal by Atletico to extend his contract to 2025 but was unhappy with the terms. His release clause stands at 50 million euros.
Footballghana.com understands that if the sale goes through, they will make an attempt to purchase Arambarri from Getafe. The Uruguayan is expected to cost close to 20 million euros.
Thomas is currently training with the rest of his team mates in preparation for the expected return of La Liga in June. He made 38 appearances in all competitions this season before the league was suspended.
