The former Portugal international explained to Marca that it was important that whilst Atletico stay ambitious, it is also important that they enjoy themselves.

"To win a Champions League is so difficult, and it cannot become an obsession for us", he said. "You must enjoy the journey and all the games.

"The great thing about the Champions League is you play against all the best teams, and we love to compete against the best. We have not managed to win it yet, but we will keep on trying until one day it finally arrives."

By his own admission, Tiago does not have a lot of time left to win the top European club competition. The midfielder - who signed aone-year contract extensionin May - said, "I'm 35, and when this season is over I'll be 36.

"I'm closer to the end of my career and that is why I'm going to take advantage of the time I'm on the pitch and enjoy every minute.

"I'm enjoying myself, but the day that I know I cannot play at this level, I will be the first to raise my arm and say so."

Once his playing career is over, the midfielder - who won the Premier League with Chelsea - has said that he has considered becoming a coach and that his playing position may help him.

"There is a big link as you must be aware of everything -- defence, attack, the organisation of the team," he said.

"You are the centre of the team. I believe this helps towards being a coach in the future."

Tiago has suggested that his hopes of becoming a coach could be benefited by his current team boss Diego Simeone, saying that he has "learned so much" from him, adding, "If you believe in what you are doing, the players will follow you.

"He has brought a union to Atletico, made the players feel secure and relaxed."
