Ghana Football Association vice president George Afriyie has stated that he wouldn't have invited Andy Yiadom for Ghana's World Cup qualifier against Egypt if he were coach Avram Grant.

The Israeli trainer handed a debut call up to Yiadom who plays with English Championship side Barnsley last week when he announced his 23-man squad for the game.

For George Afriyie who doubles as chairman of the Black Stars management committee, he would have preferred players like Samuel Inkoom and Yaw Frimpong to Andy Yaidom.

“I did not know of any player called Andy Yiadom until Avram Grant added him in his list of players for the Egypt game,” he said.

“I am being honest because there are a lot of Ghanaian players who are playing in Europe.

“It was during management committee meeting that he explained that he watched him when Barnsley played Newcastle United in a Championship game.

“If I were to be the coach of the Black Stars, instead of Yiadom, I would've preferred either Samuel Inkoom, Godfred Saka of Aduana Stars or Yaw Frimpong of T.P Mazembe for the right back position because they are tried and tested.

“However, I’m not in that position to select players for the team so I will have to go with Grant's decision," he said.

He added: "Since Andy was not born in Ghana and has had stint with England before, we are waiting for a clearance from Fifa next week. Without that clearance, he cannot take part in the game on November 13. The coach trusts him so we must also throw our weight behind him and see what he brings on board.
