Ayew, Partey fail to make it to ten-man Africa Player of the Year shortlist

Ghanaian pair of Thomas Partey and Jordan Ayew have been excluded from the top-ten Africa Player of the Year shortlist ahead of the CAF awards that will be rewarding athletes for their efforts in the past year.

The two were named as part of the 30-man shortlist of the best African footballers for 2019 following their respective outstanding showings for their various clubs and country.

Partey excelled with Atletico Madrid during the 2018/2019 season and followed it up with a fairly good performance at the 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament which was staged in Egypt.

Jordan Ayew, on the other hand, proved his worth while playing on loan at Crystal Palace from last season. He was even better during the AFCON after emerging as one of the top players from the continental showdown.

With high hopes for at least one of the players to get into the top-ten of the shortlist for the top award, that has not been the case following the release of the list today.

They miss out with the likes of Sadio Mane, Kalidou Koulibaly, Riyad Mahrez, Ismael Bennacer, Youssef Belaili, Mohamed Salah, Andre Onana, Hakim Ziyach, Odiong Ighalo and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang completing the list.

The 2019 CAF Awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at the Albatros Citadel Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada, Egypt.
