Barcelona make Coutinho massive contract offer; Messi unimpressed

Barcelona have tabled a contract offer to Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

After failing to prise Coutinho away from Liverpool over the summer, Barca will push to reopen negotiations later this month. The Catalans plan to send a delegation to Merseyside for talks at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Don Balon says Coutinho - via agent Kia Joorabchian - has been assured of the terms he will be handed should a move go through.

Barca are offering Coutinho a deal worth €25m-a-year, which would make him the second highest paid player at the club behind only Lionel Messi.

For his part, Messi isn't happy with Barca's plans, believing local players deserve such status ahead of 'outsiders'. Coutinho would arrive on a bigger salary than club stalwarts Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique.
