Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom claims Andy Yiadom’s national team involvement may affect his sharpness ahead of Saturday's encounter with Wigan Athletic in the English Championship.

Yiadom was an unused substitute for Ghana in their 2-0 lost to Egypt in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was called up for his first senior national team exposure with the Black Stars but came as a worry to his club manager Heckingbottom who complained about Yiadom and striker Adam Armstrong’s national team involvements.

“They’ve come back great but we’re wary of the travel times," Heckingbottom told his club's official website.

“Andy had about 18 hours travel time and Arma had a nine-hour time difference and Yids about four or five hours.

“It’s those sorts of things that can have an impact. We gave them a day off because they’ve been good players, we want them involved, and want them in the building and up to speed.

“We have to make sure they are physically and mentally right to go. Even if they’re feeling fine but if we notice big differences and physical scars they may be affected.

Yiadom has made 14 league appearances for Barnsley so far this season.
