Basel Boss Claims Arsenal Were Dominated by West Ham Despite 5-1 Thrashing

Basel manager Urs Fischer has claimed Arsenal were dominated during their 5-1 thrashing over West Ham on Saturday.

An Alexis Sanchez hat-trick coupled with strikes from Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ensured a thumping win for the Gunners, with the club moving into second place in the Premier League.

West Ham were below par throughout the contest, but Basel boss Fischer has insisted the Hammers were the superior team in the second-half, despite Arsenal's clear dominance on the scoreboard.

"They are a very efficient squad in the first half it was balanced, in the second half West Ham were the better team and were dominating the match. But then Arsenal scored and it changed so fast and made them pay," Fischer toldtheMirrorahead of his side's clash against Arsene Wenger's side on Tuesday.

Swiss side Basel lost 2-0 during the first encounter in north London, with Theo Walcott scoring twice. With his team needing to better Ludogerets' results against PSG to qualify for the Europa League, Fischer has maintained his players are looking to beat their group rivals instead of holding out for a draw.

We had a plan in London and I thought we were quite good. Arsenal have that quality that even when you think you are quite good, they still score a goal. Alexis Sanchez didn't have to score three goals for us to know he is an excellent player.

We do not go into the game with the goal of a draw.

That would be too dangerous. I think we need to score goals, especially against a team like Arsenal.

I am a realist. What is clear is that we can win if we have a perfect day “ and this is what it needs. If we want to beat a tough opponent like Arsenal, we need a perfect day."
