Bayern Boss Demands His Side Challenge for Top Spot in Champions League Group After PSV Win

Carlo Ancelotti has urged his Bayern Munich players to catch Champions League group D leadersAtletico Madrid after their resounding 4-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night.

The win will have been a big relief for Ancelotti as his side grabbed their first victory in four games. Goals fromThomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich, Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben capped off a fine display to give the German champions the much needed three points.

Joshua Kimmich has now scored 7 goals in his last 8 games in all competitions for Bayern Munich.

Speaking after the game in hispress conference, the Bayern manager spoke of his delight at the win and how his team reacted toLuciano Narsingh's goal for PSV,just before half time.


Ancelotti said:"We played well - that was what I expected.We showed a good reaction. We had some problems at the end of the first half, but otherwise it was good.


"After 30 minutes of playing very well, we allowed the game to open up. We weren't at 100 per cent for a few moments and they scored a fantastic goal from a counterattack. After the third goal, though, everything was good."

Despite the win, Bayern remain in second spot in group D after Atletico Madrid grabbed a hard earned three points away to FCRostov, thanks to Yannick Carrasco's strike.

Diego Simeone's men are three points ahead of the Bavarians, having beaten them 1-0 in matchday two. The all important top spot in the Champions League groupstagemeans that the team qualifying in first place is likely to face an easier opponent in the next round, whilstthe team that finishes second could likely face one of Europe's big sides.


With this in mind, Ancelotti called onhis players to push for top spot and overtake leaders Atletico Madrid in the remaining three matches before the knockout round.

He added: "We need to be at our best in the next few games as well to keep us in the battle with Atletico Madrid for top spot."


The all important fixture againstLos Rojiblancos takes place on matchday six, where Bayern Munich will host Atletico Madrid in a match that could well determine who finishes top of the group.
