Bayern Munich Ace Javi Martinez Reveals What TV Shows Help Him Unwind and Relax Away From Football

Published on: 08 January 2017

Javi Martinez is a well-known name at Bayern Munich, but considering the plethora of talent available at the Allianz Arena, he is a player who often goes under the radar.

The 28-year-old is best known for his defensive capabilities and his versatility is underlined by his willingness to play in either the Bayernmidfield or at centre-back. Both positions require high levels of concentration, so it's of no real surprise that the former Bilbao man is a big fan of watching TV series when he is relaxing off the field.

It's a little weird to think that footballers also love to have a night in, just working their way through a whole TV series, but it seems that even the likes of Martinez love a good bit of binge watching.

And when discussing the matter with Bayern's officialwebsite, the Spaniard revealed what his top threepreferenceswere when it comes to choosing his favourite shows.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Martinez picked three series from the action genre and named Narcos,Designated Survivor andSin Identidad as his top picks.

Explaining his decisions one by one, the Spanish international said of Narcos, which is about the infamous struggle between theColombian Government and the drug cartel of Pablo Escobar:That's what fascinates me about Narcos. I love history, so I enjoy watching programmes that are based on real events.

When it came to Designated Survivor, whose main character is played by Keifer Sutherland (need we say anymore?), Martinez explained:For me it was a surprise hit. I'd never heard of this series. It gripped me as soon as I started watching it “ I couldn't stop.

Finally, regardingSin Identidad, a Spanish drama about a lawyer seeking her true identity and reason for being adopted as a child, the Bayern man said:I love American shows but I also enjoy watching Spanish.I love it and watched the final episode two weeks ago.

So there you have it, turns outeven professional footballers can't resist a good TV programme and love sitting through consecutive hours of a series -just like the rest of us.
