Bayern Munich Beat Chelsea to £17m Signing of Highly-Rated Hoffenheim Centre-Back

Niklas Sule appears set to remain in the Bundesliga after 1899 Hoffenheim reportedly accepted a 20m euros (£17.4m) bid for his services from Bayern Munich.

German news outlet Bild has claimed that the 21-year-old is ready to put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal to join Bayern after turning down a similar offer from Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Sule will now undergo a medical before completing the formalities on his transfer to the Allianz Arena in the coming days.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had hoped to bring the Germany international to Stamford Bridge, but he has seen his advances rebuffed by Sule and must now look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.

The Italian had included Sule on a list of potential candidates to bring in either in January or in the summer, but he must turn his attentions to the likes of Roma's Antonio Rudiger now after news broke of Sule's impending move to Bayern.

Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti will now have the selection headache of choosing between three of Germany's best centre-halves in his central defensive pairing, with Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng also available to him in Bavaria.

I wonder how Löw would feel about three of his potentially most important defenders fighting for two spots at Bayern every week.

A 2016 Olympics silver medal winner, Sule has enjoyed a remarkable rise up the footballing pyramid over the past five years. The centre-back became one of the hottest young defensive prospects in Europe after forcing his way up through the youth ranks at Hoffenheim before breaking into the first-team fold on May 11 2013.

He made his senior bow in the 4-1 loss to Hamburg that day, but had cemented a regular starting place in Hoffenheim's side since then, and had even helped the German outfit go the first half of 2016/17 undefeated in Germany's top flight. Hoffenheim currently sit fifth in the league standings, but remain the only side to have not tasted defeat so far this term.

Sule made 99 appearances in all competitions during his three-year career at the Rhein-Neckar Arena, scoring on seven occasions.
