Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti heaped praise on his side after they beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 at theAllianz Arena on Saturday.

Spanish midfielderThiago opened the scoring for the title-holders in the 30th minute, only for Leverkusen'sHakan Calhanoglu to equalise a matter of minutes later.

Mats Hummels put the game back in Bayern's favour in the 56th minute with a superb headed goal from a Joshua Kimmich corner.

"It's an important win," Ancelotti told Sky Deutschland, as quoted byESPN. "We needed a reaction as the last two games weren't good.

"I'm happy with the result. There are moments in the season when it's more important to win than to play really well.

"We played well in parts of the game, but we suffered at the end too as it was really important."

The Italian boss still found faults in his side's defence, stating that they are simply conceding too many goals.

"Unfortunately, the last few games we are always conceding goals, compared to the start of the season when we hardly conceded any." He added."That's one of the areas where we have to improve."

Finally, Ancelotti praised league-leaders Red Bull Leipzig, who are now three points clear of Bayern after 12 games having remained unbeaten so far.

"Congratulations to Leipzig, who are having a fantastic season," he said.

"Of course, every team wants to be at the top of the table. But the most important thing is to be top at the end of the season, and that remains our goal."
