Bayern Munich Defender Jerome Boateng Withdraws From Germany Squad Due to Fitness Concerns

Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng will miss both of Germany's upcoming international matches after withdrawing from the national squad due to complications with his knee and hamstring.

The defender was substituted in the final minute of Bayern's recent 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim and made the decision to pull out of the German team just an hour after the full time whistle.

Boateng confirmed the news toBlidand explained the thinking behind his decision:"I've been nursing minor knee and hamstring problems for the past 10 days.

"I was only able to play against Hoffenheim with painkillers. I also had muscle problems, and that's why I was subbed off. It's never easy to cancel on Joachim Low because every international is an honour. But I could not risk a longer lay-off."

The decision could well have been influencedby Boateng's previous injury problems and also Bayern's match first gameafter the international break - a mouthwatering trip to Borussia Dortmund.

The German champions remain six points clear of Thomas Tuchel's side, but despite their indifferent form this season, Dortmund are likely to provide a tough test for Bayern, who themselveshave struggled for consistency in the Bundesliga.

Boateng will be desperate to play in the match on 19th November and is clearly prioritising it over playing for his national team.

Germany, meanwhile, have decided not to replace the centre-backfor the upcoming matches against San Marino and Italy.

The trip to one of Europe's smallest nations is unlikely to cause much concern for Joachim Low's side, whilst the crunch match with Italy is only a friendly, hence the decision not to find a replacement for the injured Boateng.
