Bayern Munich Star Admits He's Frustrated With His Position on Substitutes Bench

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has admitted he was disappointed to be left out of the starting lineup for his team's 3-0 victory over Bundesliga title rivals RB Leipzig last month.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti made the surprise decision to leave the German international on the bench for the crunch meeting before the commencement of the winter break. Muller's indifferent form in front of goal this season is likely to have played a part, as he has scored just once in 13 Bundesliga appearances this term.

Currently out in Qatar with Bayern for their mid-season training camp, the World Cup winner has spoken at his frustration of watching the victory over Lepzig from the bench, although he did concede that it was part of playing a team game.

Muller told Sports Blid (as quoted byGoal.com):"The last game against Leipzig was not ideal for me on a personal level because I did not play.

"There was more space than in previous games and it was a game where I could have enjoyed myself.

"So I was obviously not watching on from the bench with a smile on my face.

"There will be situations where players will have to settle for a place on the bench in important games. But we have to deal with it as a team."

With news that key midfielder Thiago Alcantara could miss Bayern's first fixture after the winter break with Freiburg due to a thigh injury, Muller will be hoping to win his place back in Ancelotti's team and look toimprove upon his disappointing first half of the season.
