Bayern Munich star David Alaba slams Ireland style of play

Bayern Munich star David Alaba has slammed the Republic of Ireland's style of play.

Austria took the lead through Martin Hinteregger in the first-half of their crucial World Cup qualifier with Ireland.

But they were denied a much-needed three points in Group D thanks to an 85th minute equaliser from Jonathan Walters.

The Stoke striker brilliantly brought down a long ball to fire home past Heinz Lindner in the Austrian goal.

And Alaba was not happy, blasting Martin O'Neill's side's long-ball tactics.

"I think it was not an easy game today against Ireland," Alaba told Goal. "They play very hard, very aggressive, and tried to push us back.

"We tried to play our game, but it was not easy to play our game because they play most of the time long balls from behind to the front.

"It's not easy to create chances or a game when you're just receiving long balls."
