Bayern Munich Star Franck Ribery Reveals Why He Loves Playing Football So Much

Published on: 09 November 2016

Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery has stated that he feels "like a child" whenever he takes to the football field to play the beautiful game.

The winger explained just how much excitement and child-like glee he possesses whenever he laces up his boots, put his football kit on and took to the pitch.

The Daily Mirror published quotes from Ribery after the France international had sat down to discuss what football meant to him, as well as the extent of his relationship with Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti, who replaced Pep Guardiola in the dugout at the Allianz Arena following the Spaniard's departure in the summer.

Ribery said: "When I'm free of injury and healthy I can focus 100 per cent on playing football. I feel like a child when I'm on the pitch. I'm just so happy out there and always want to play.

"Another thing that is very important for me is the good relationship I enjoy with the coach [Carlo Ancelotti] and his team."

The 33-year-old's time with Bayern has been plagued by injuries ever since he completed a £21m move from Ligue 1 side Marseille in the summer of 2007.

Patella issues, back troubles and serious ankle injury - the latter of which saw Ribery miss 38 matches for Bayern - are just three of a number of setbacks that the veteran attacker has had to endure during his time in Germany.

However, the ex-Galatasaray star did manage to put a sustained run in the team together during the early months of the campaign, with nine appearances coming in the first-team before a muscle problem reared its ugly head to force Ribery onto the sidelines once again.

Since joining the German giants, Ribery has gone to pick up 16 winners' medals and has accrued around 330 appearances in all competitions. His current contract is also due to expire at the end of the season, and Ribery has made it known that he harbours hopes of signing an extension with the Bundesliga champions in the coming months.
