Bayern Munich Star Franck Ribery Says Not Being Top of the Bundes Feels 'Weird'

Published on: 01 December 2016

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has claimed that is a strange feeling to look at the Bundesliga table and not see his team in first place, butbelieves the club's players are to blame for their form so far this season.

Bayern are currently behind surprise leaders RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, while defeats to Atletico Madrid and FC Rostov have seen the club qualify onlyas runners up behind Atletico in their Champions League group.

Speaking to Sky Sports as quoted byESPN, Ribery backed Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti and urged his teammates to rediscover their best form, citing injuries as a major reason for the club's indifferent start.

"The players are to blame for the current situation," Ribery, 33, said.

"We've not really gelled yet due to the many injuries we've suffered. We've often had one player coming back but then another two get injured. Consequently, it's been really tough to find our rhythm."

"We've got to find our way again after three years with Pep Guardiola," he said. "It's a completely new situation and Ancelotti is a totally different person too.

"But I've a good relationship with Ancelotti and it feels good working with him. He has a lot of faith in me and we speak a great deal."

Draws against Köln, Frankfurt, and Hoffenheim, as well as defeat to Borussia Dortmund has seen the club surrender their spot at the top of the Bundesliga, and Ribery believes there is no more room for any further mistakes this season.

"Of course, it's a weird feeling not topping the Bundesliga, but we have to work hard and stick together," Ribery continued.

"But I love pressure, and am especially looking forward to the game against Leipzig.

"We can't make any more mistakes. We've got to win every game from now on."

Ribery's side take on Mainz on Friday night in the league as they look to close the gap on Leipzig ahead of the Christmas break.
