Thiago Alcantara has claimed that Bayern Munich are hungry "like animals" after returning to the top of the Bundesliga at the expense of Red Bull Leipzig.
The German champions dismantled this season's surprise package in a 3-0 victory before the winter break took effect across the continent, with the result seeing Bayern leapfrog Leipzig back into first place.
Carlo Ancelotti's men had been playing catch up with Leipzig after picking up just one point from a possible six from clashes with Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund, but have since gone on a six-match winning streak to lead the pack by three points.
Speaking to TZ before the Bundesliga closed down for Christmas, Thiago stated how important the win over Leipzig was, before going on to reveal how hungry Bayern were to reclaim top spot before the Christmas break.
He said: "We are like animals when it comes to the Bundesliga. We always want to be the best, score as many goals as possible and make sure we do not concede.
"The match against RB Leipzig was an important game about who would lead the table after the first half of the season."

The 25-year-old has often been deployed in a number of different positions by manager Ancelotti this term, despite being a centre midfielder by trade. However, Thiago insisted he is happy to play wherever the Italian wants him to, if it means he gets to spend more time on the pitch.
He added: "I am feeling very well so long as I am out there on the pitch with my team-mates. I can play in any position except goalkeeper. We are always enjoying ourselves out there, but we also have defensive tasks. I just want to be on top of my game, because that benefits my team-mates as well."
Bayern return to action on January 20 with an away trip to SC Freiburg.
