Bayern Munich Utterly Dismiss Manchester City Link With Star Full-Back

Bayern Munich have dealt Manchester City a blow in their pursuit of full-back David Alaba, claiming he is not for sale.


Alaba, 24, has blossomed into one of Europe's most consistent and versatile defenders and isalso adept at playing in midfield - given his qualities,hehas attracted interest from some of Bayern's European rivals.


Manchester City have been linked, with manager Pep Guardiola having previously worked with Alaba at the Bundesliga club.

However,Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has dismissed the transfer rumours, declaring Alaba will stay with the German club having recently signed a new contract.


"There is no truth in the rumours about David Alaba going to Manchester City," Rummenigge stated,as quoted by the Mirror.

"He recently extended his contract with us until 2021. Every big European club knows what that means with Bayern.


"That is to say that we are completely relaxed about his situation. His departure is not on the agenda at all."

Since arriving at the Allianz, Alaba has helped Bayern win the Bundesliga five times as well as numerous other domestic honours and a Champions League.


He was also named in the Bundesliga team of the season for the 2015-16 campaign, and Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti has praised the Austria international, highlighting his potential to be a great player.

"I have lots of confidence in David. I think he can become even better," the former Milan and Real Madrid boss said.


Alaba has made a total of 230 appearances in all competitions for Bayern, scoring 19 goals and impressing in various roles, playing at full-back, centre back,central midfield and on either wing.
