Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer Set to Miss Crunch CL Clash Against FC Rostov With Injury

Manuel Neuer has been ruled out of Bayern Munich's Champions League clash against FC Rostov with a calf injury.

The club's official website revealed that the goalkeeper was not part of Carlo Ancelotti's travelling party after he complained of a tight calf ahead of a training session at Bayern's Sabener Strasse training base on Monday.

Neuer will undergo treatment on the knock while his team mates look to secure passage to the knock out rounds of the competition, and he will be replaced by Sven Ulreich inbetween the sticks for the Group D encounter in Russia.

The 30-year-old has been an ever present in Ancelotti's starting line up so far this campaign, with his last omission coming back in May of this year following the end of the 2015/16 season.

Neuer's longest time out for the Bundesliga champions came back in April 2014, when the shot stopper missed three consecutive matches with a calf strain. He has not missed more than one match for Bayern since that time.

The Germany international, who was part of the side that lost 1-0 to title challengers Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, will hope to be fit in time to face Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Neuer's understudy Ulreich is set to make just his fourth appearance for Bayern, with his last appearance coming in the 3-1 victory over Hannover back on May 14.

The 28-year-old, who joined from fellow German outfit VfB Stuttgart for £3m in July 2015, featured three times for Bayern last term as he had to play second fiddle to undisputed number one Neuer.

The former Under-21 international will now face Rostov with Bayern needing a win over the Russian Premier League side to secure their place in the last-16 of UEFAs flagship club tournament.

Bayern currently sit in second position in their Champions League group, three points behind La Liga club Atletico Madrid, who have already qualified for the knockout rounds.
