Ghana midfielder Bernard Mensah has dedicated his goal against Umraniyespor in the Turkish Super Lig on Monday to late compatriot Christian Atsu.

The 31-year-old Atsu, who last played for Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig in February, died later that month after being trapped in an earthquake that struck the country.

Speaking after the 3-1 win over Umraniyespor, Mensah said: "Atsu's death and the next process were very difficult for me.

“I tried to do everything I could. He was a special person to me. All the goals I scored and will score are for him, I will never forget him."

In the match, Mame Baba Thiam opened the scoring for the hosts in the 31st minute from the penalty spot before Mehmet Umut Nayir levelled for the visitors two minutes into first half stoppage time.

Mensah then put Kayserispor ahead in the 53rd minute with his fifth goal of the season in 21 matches, providing two assists for the campaign.

He played for 88 minutes before being replaced by countryman Yaw Ackah. In the 97th minute, Carlos Mané added a third for the hosts to seal a comprehensive victory.

The win takes Kayserispor to 7th place on the league table with 44 points, while Umraniyespor remain in the relegation zone in 18th place with 23 points. The victory will be a morale booster for Kayserispor as they push for a top-six finish in the Super Lig.
