Black Stars assistant coach, George Boateng watched Nottingham Forest clash with Southampton on Monday night at the City Ground.

It was a night both teams needed a win to stay alive in the Premier League.

However, the home side recorded a 4-3 win to revive their hopes.

Forest took a 3-1 lead into half-time courtesy of an early double from Taiwo Awoniyi and a penalty from Morgan Gibbs-White, with Carlos Alcaraz finishing off a slick Saints move to net their goal.

Substitute Lyanco - on to replace the injured Armel Bella-Kotchap - then headed past Keylor Navas at the beginning of the second half but the game's decisive sixth goal fell to the hosts, with Danilo finishing off a slick move to make it 4-2 with 15 minutes remaining.

James Ward-Prowse did manage to score a late penalty to set up a very tense final few minutes, though it proved to be Forest's night as they came away with all three points.

Boateng who kept his job despite Otto Addo resigning was at the stadium to watch the game.

Andre Ayew, who is the skipper of the national team did not feature in the game. However, Kamaldeen Sulemana, who joined Southampton was introduced in the second half of the game.

Defender Mohammed Salisu was not part of the travelling squad due to an injury. Southampton, who sit bottom of the Premier League table must win their game against Fulham this weekend or will suffer relegation with Salisu and Sulemana.

Jordan Ayew meanwhile was at the stadium to support his brother.

The Black Stars will regroup for their final two games of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Madagascar and the Central African Republic next month.
