Black Stars can win trophy with current players - Majeed Ashimeru

Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has stated that the senior national team can clinch a trophy with the current setup.

The Black Stars have come close to winning the AFCON in 2010 and 2015 but faltered at the last hurdle.

A 1-0 defeat to Egypt in 2010 and a penalty shootout loss to Ivory Coast in 2015 ensured the team didn't taste African success since 1982.

Despite the disappointments, Ashimeru thinks with effort the current team can get the job done.

"tThe team [Black Stars] went close to getting the title but then in football it takes so much to win the title," he told Joy Sports' Owuraku Ampofo in an exclusive interview.

"I will say this team is doing well with the new coach [CK Akonnor] and he is trying to give so many players the chance. I believe we will do something great with this team and with the coach. For me I believe when we work really hard towards our goal, it will happen soon."

The 23-year-old is yet to feature in an official match for the senior national team.
