Borussia Dortmund Boss Reportedly Had No Idea About Arrival of Swedish Wonderkid

Published on: 24 January 2017

Ructions within the Borussia Dortmund hierarchy could rear their ugly heads again after boss Thomas Tuchel was not told of the impending arrival of Swedish wonderkid Alexander Isak.

Sport Bild claims that Tuchel has been kept in the dark over the club's move for the talented striker, and that he was only made aware of the reported 10m euros (£8.5m) signing of Isak after speculation in the Swedish media linked Dortmund with a move for the 17-year-old.

The Bundesliga title challengers completed the signing of the much sought after forward on Tuesday, with Isak signing a two-and-a-half year contract that will keep him at the Westfalonstadion until the summer of 2019.

Tuchel, however, has now seen his authority at Dortmund undermined once more after speculation earlier in the season had appeared to state that the 43-year-old had had a falling out with chief scout Sven Mislintat.

The pair were at loggerheads back in October over the apparent signing of Atletico Madrid starlet Oliver Torres - a situation that came about after Mislintat held talks with general manager Michael Zorc about a new role within the club that would see his opinion take on greater prominence within the hierarchy at Dortmund.

The issue led to strong rumours that Tuchel could walk away from his position as Dortmund's first-team manager, but he has remained in place to help guide the Germans back into Bundesliga title contention as the season has progressed.

This latest incident involving Isak, though, could open the war of words back up between Tuchel and the rest of Dortmund's senior staff.

Isak was one of the most highly coveted young stars within the game until his move to Germany, with a whole host of European giants including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Chelsea monitoring the former AIK Solna player's situation with the hope of prising him away from the Swedish outfit.

Dubbed the new 'Zlatan Ibrahimovic', Isak only made his first-team debut in February 2016, but went on to score 13 goals in 29 appearances for AIK before his departure. He also became Sweden's youngest ever goalscorer after netting on his senior international debut against Slovakia on January 12.
