Borrussia Dortmund are keen to extend Christian Pulisic's current contract, in a bid to ward of interest from Premier League leaders Liverpool, according to reports in theLiverpool Echo.

The American joined the German team in 2015, when Jurgen Klopp was manager atthe Westfalenstadion. The 18-year-oldhas since risen through the club's academy and become a regular first team member of the side, which is now underThomas Tuchel's leadership.

Despite his tender age, Liverpool have been heavily linked to Pulisic and Klopp, now manager of the Reds, attempted to sign his former player last summer, but saw the Merseyside club's bid of£11m fail.

With Danny Ings recently ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury and Saido Mane expected to leave for international duty in the new year, Liverpool are becoming concerned at a lack of cover in their squad.

With the busy Winter fixture list likely to take its toll on Klopp's team, the club may seek to renew their interest in Pulisicin January,as they bid to continuetheir early season form and claim their first ever Premier League title.

However, Dortmund are now considering extending Christian Pulisic's current deal, which expires in 2019.

The club's sporting director, Michael Zorc, has announced they intend to offer the American a contract extension,so he can continue his development under Tuchel and his coaching staff.

There have been some offers for him in the summer window from England and from German clubs, but we would like to have him here and develop him here, Zorc told Sports Illustrated (as quoted by the Echo).

We did not educate him to sell him. We have a long-running contract until 2019, but because of his development the club is ready to speak to him to prolong his contract at any time.
