Borrusia Dortmund are ready to triple the wages of young star Julian Weigl in an attempt to ward off potential suitors Manchester City.

The midfielder only made the move to Dortmund 15 months ago from 1860 Munich, but according to theMirror, hehas already made a big enough impression that Europe's top clubs havecome calling.

The 21-year-old was signed as a future first team player, but quickly forced his way into Thomas Tuchel's plans. He went on to make 51 appearances in his debut season and earn his international debut with Germany, andJoachim Low also saw enough to give him a spot in his Euro 2016 squad.

Weigl has made 11 appearances so far this season and is a key member of Tuchel's squad, which has attracted interest all over Europe.City are said to be keeping tabs on the youngster and think they can secure him for £20m after he only cost Dortmund £2m 15 months ago.

With Pep Guardiola still wanting to transform his squad, he may be keen on Weigl but will have to fend off interest from former club Bayern Munich who have previously expressed their regret at letting the Bavarian-born star slip through their fingers.

Dortmund, eager to keep hold of him, are willing to triple his wages from £20,000-a-week to £60,000-a-week.

Sporting director Michael Zorc spoke earlier this month to say: "We have the wish to tie him to a long-term contract. But we are not pressed for time because he feels extremely comfortable here."

Weigl's scored his first senior goal against Sporting Lisbon this week in their 2-1 Champions League win.

"I am not really sure what I did for the goal. I am ecstatic that I finally found the back of the net," Weigl said.

"The manager keeps saying we have got to take our chances, and I managed that tonight."
