Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin is set for a two week lay-off after suffering a knee injury on Saturday.

Things looked bleak for the former Real Madrid man after being substituted in the 36th minute due to injuryduring his side's 4-1 win over Borussia Mochengladbach, during which Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice.

The club had feared a lengthy set back for the Turkey international but Sahin is expected to be back in action before the beginning of the New Year, with the club announcing the injury is not as bad as once feared.

The message abovetranslates as: "Luck in disguise for @nurisahin: Our number 8 must insert only a two-week break due to his knee problems."

Sahin toldFour Four Twoafter the game he thought he would be able to run the knock off, but that eventually he had to come off.

"I took a knock to my knee relatively early in the match. It was after around 10 minutes or so. Initially I thought that I'd be able to run it off, but it got worse with every passing minute."

Sahin's career has been punctured by injury to date, with the 28-year-old suffering from tendon irritation in 2015 which ruled him out of action for almost a year, while he also missed 13 games last season due to a training injury.

Having initially made his name at Dortmund, Sahin joined Real Madrid in 2011 but found first-team opportunities limited and was shipped out on loan to Liverpool before returning to Dortmund permanently in 2014. He has made 17 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund since returning, scoring once.
