Jwaneng Galaxy FC have been declared champions after the Botswana Football Association (BFA) made the decision to annul the season due to the challenges posed by COVID-19.
A meeting of the BFA Executive Committee held on June 14, made the decision to end the campaign with the league standings remaining as they were when the season was halted in March.
“Having considered the prevailing circumstances in Botswana, the guidelines provided by the BFA Medical Committee, FIFA and CAF, and the financial resources needed to return to play, the Botswana Football Association National Executive Committee unanimously agreed to end the football season,” a statement from the FA stated.
Galaxy led the standings with 41 points, one ahead of second-placed Township Rollers and third-placed Orapa United with 10 rounds of matches left.
At the same time, TAFIC, Molepole City Stars, and SC Serowe will be relegated.
Meanwhile, BFA have announced that a committee will be formed to deal with the modalities of the promotional play-offs.
“The lives and health of the players and the nation at large was prioritised above all as it is currently too risky to return to play,” further stated the statement.
