Bournemouth's Charlie Daniels Insists His Side Must Start With High Tempo Against Spurs This Weekend

Published on: 19 October 2016

Bournemouth defender Charlie Daniels has admitted that his side must start with a high-tempo as they face Tottenham at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

The 30-year-old left-sided defender, who trained for Tottenham for three years between 2006 and 2009, found himself on the scoresheet last weekend as Eddie Howe's side demolished Hull City in a 6-1 win.

And he believes that the same level of intensity must be maintained for this weekend's clash with Spurs, in order to scupper the Lilywhites' unbeaten Premier League start.

Hopefully we can produce an exciting match, he told afcb.co.uk. We want to play a high tempo and a fast-attacking game, but I know Spurs will want to do that as well. Hopefully we don't cancel each other out. It could be a bit end to end.

I was there [Spurs] for a good number of years when I was young and I still have a lot of friends there who are on the staff. I have a whole load of family and friends that are Spurs fans too, so they're going to come down and enjoy the game. It'll be a special occasion for them.

Personally, it's about doing a job and not only for me but for the team. We want to win and break their duck.

Daniels, who has played every minutes of the Cherries' Premier League campaign so far, went on to discuss the two defeats against Tottenham last season, which saw the Cherries lose 3-0 at White Hart Lane and 5-1 at the Vitality Stadium.

It was a big learning curve for us, especially the first game at home.

We thought we actually played particularly well, especially in the first half, so it was disappointing but we learnt a lot from that game as the season went on.

We expect the same this Saturday. It's going to be a tough game for us so we have to be very good on the ball if we want to break their press and expose their back line.
